How to layer necklaces like a pro

How to layer necklaces in 5 easy steps

Layering necklaces isn't a new style, but it's definitely more common lately. Jewelry is a great way to create a unique and personal style, and is perfect for a layered look.

Plus, it makes sense: we love our jewelry, so why not wear it all at once, right?

If you love a bold style or just want to upgrade your minimalist look, stacking jewelry is the perfect solution.

1. The base

The first thing we need to do is create a 'base', starting from the top and working our way down. If we want to create layers, we need to use the space properly. The first layer will be the shortest, which means we start with a necklace. For example, if you want to wear a necklace with a gemstone pendant. Make sure that the first stone doesn't overshadow the second, third or fourth layer.

Opt for a delicate round or horizontal gemstone pendant for your base necklace.

2.  Placing the next layers

The second layer will be slightly longer than your choker. Leave about 2.5-3 inches of your neckline in between, and do the same with the third layer.

If you only want to wear two layers, you can also make the second and last layer lower around the beginning of your neckline.

This creates an open, breathable neckline that gives the first and second layers a little room to shine.

3. How many layers

This is where your personal style comes into play. If you're going for a polished or casual look, you can wear two to three layers.

If you're a fan of 'go big or home', you can add a fourth layer.

4. With or without a {gemstone} pendant

If you prefer a necklace with a gemstone pendant, it's important to find a good balance. We don't want overkill.

Style rule: it all comes down to the number of layers. A two layer stacking necklace can be worn with one large pendant or two small pendants. If stacking with 3 to 4 layers, it's better to choose only small pendants.

Be playful and combine different gemstone colors.

If you want to create a polished look, you can choose a single color gemstone or go for a plain and polished look none.

5. Type of chains

The type of chains don't necessarily have to match. One rule could be to start from delicate to bold or the other way around. The first or last chain is the one you should focus your attention on.

Different chains add a little depth and an eclectic flair. Inspiration is everywhere, so feel free to ask or share ideas. Here are some inspirational images to help you on your way.
